Dead Space Remake: Marker Fragments and Secret Ending Location

Dead Space Remake’s  Marker Fragments will assist you in unlocking the secret ending, which is only accessible after collecting all twelve hidden items.

The Marker Fragments can only be found in the Dead Space Remake‘s New Game+ mode. While they don’t have to be collected in any particular order, if you miss even one of them before Chapter 12, you’ll have to beat the game and then restart the New Game+ to get the rest.

Obviously, this is inconvenient, so we’re here to assist by showing you where to find all Twelve locations for the Dead Space Marker Fragments, in the recommended order to collect them, as well as screenshots of where to find each of them on the map and what to look for once you’re there.

If you follow this guide, you’ll be able to unlock the game’s secret ending as well as the Achievement or Trophy for it.

DEAD SPACE REMAKE GUIDES: Dead Space Marker Fragment Locations: How to Get the Alternate Ending | How to Fix the Comms Array

FRAGMENTS OF DEAD SPACE MARKERS

The following are the 12 Marker Fragment locations in the Dead Space remake:

Marker Fragment 1 location – Chapter 1, Maintenance Bay Office
Marker Fragment 2 location – Chapter 2, Dr. T Kyne CSO office
Marker Fragment 3 location – Chapter 3, Engine Room
Marker Fragment 4 location – Chapter 4, Break Room
Marker Fragment 5 location – Chapter 5, Dr. C Mercer office
Marker Fragment 6 location – Chapter 5, Cryogenics
Marker Fragment 7 location – Chapter 6, East Grow Chamber
Marker Fragment 8 location – Chapter 7, Mineral Samples
Marker Fragment 9 location – Chapter 8, Communications Hub
Marker Fragment 10 location – Chapter 10, Deluxe Quarters
Marker Fragment 11 location – Chapter 10, Inquiry Desks
Marker Fragment 12 location – Cargo Bay

There are a few things you should know before you start collecting Marker Fragments.

This will start a new game with all of your upgrade progress and most of your items carried over, but the game will not be identical.

There are now more difficult enemies to deal with, as well as the 12 Marker Fragments, required to access the alternate ending.
Although the Marker Fragments do not have to be collected in any particular order, the fact that your adventure is fairly linear means that this is the best order to collect them so that you do not stray too far off course.

You will not be able to see the secret ending if you miss even one Marker Fragment. If you don’t collect them all and complete New Game+, you can start another New Game+ with the Marker Fragments you collected.

The majority of our chapters will have one fragment, but there are a few exceptions: Chapter 5 has two, Chapter 10 has two, and Chapters 9 and 12 have none.

DEAD SPACE MARKER FRAGMENT ONE

Chapter One contains the first Marker Fragment.

You’ll be asked early on in the game to get the Tram running by completing two objectives: Replace the Damaged Tram and Find the Data Board. Enter your missions and select track. Locate the Data Board and proceed to the Maintenance Bay using your navigation line.

When you arrive, take the elevator up to the Maintenance Room and use the Circuit Breaker to divert power to it.

After that, return to the elevator and look on your map for the room labeled Maintenance Office (at the lower-right corner of the Maintenance Bay). Enter this room to find the Data Board.

However, before you collect the Data Board, turn right and you’ll notice a purple glowing object on a shelf. The Marker Fragment is what you’re looking for.

You won’t be able to grab it right away because you need to melee the shelf first.

DEAD SPACE MARKER FRAGMENT TWO
Chapter Two contains the second Marker Fragment.

You’ll have to destroy the barricade that’s blocking the morgue shortly after the chapter begins. There are two goals for this: find a hydrazine tank and a shock pad. Go to your missions and select tracking. Locate a Shock Pad.

To get to the Main Lab, follow your navigational line. When you arrive, it will be quarantined, and everything will be shut down until you have killed every enemy (on both floors).

Once the quarantine has been lifted, look for an office marked ‘Dr. T Kyne Chief Science Officer’ on the lower of the two floors on your map.

This office contains a hidden room that is hidden behind a large set of shelves.

Use your kinesis to move the shelves, revealing the hidden room and the Marker Fragment within.

DEAD SPACE MARKER FRAGMENT THREE
Chapter Three contains the third Marker Fragment.

After you activate the centrifuge, your next objective, Manually Ignite the Engines, will be assigned to you.

After a battle with a giant tentacle and a trek through the decontamination area, you’ll ascend a cargo lift and arrive in the Engine Room after a simple stasis puzzle with some fans and a heavily infected area.

Once you’ve cleared out the Engine Room of enemies, look for a small alcove labeled ‘Power Sub-Station 003’.

Shimmy left while facing it and peer around to the dark area behind it to find the third Marker Fragment in the shadows.

DEAD SPACE MARKER FRAGMENT FOUR
Chapter Four contains the fourth Marker Fragment.

After reactivating the elevators, the mission ‘Power and Restart the ADS Cannons’ is assigned to you.

This is made up of three smaller objectives, one of which is Reroute Power from Electrical Systems, which you want to track for the Marker Fragment.

Following your tracker line will take you down an elevator to the Bridge’s floor 3. Once there, look for the Break Room on your map – it’s the farthest south.

The Marker Fragment is just sitting on the ground in the Break Room.

FIVE DEAD SPACE MARKER FRAGMENTS
Chapter Five contains the fifth Marker Fragment.

After meeting Mercer and completing the Escape the Creature objective, you’ll be asked to complete the next objective, Lift the Lockdown.

Following your blue tracker line will lead you to a small officer labeled ‘Dr C Mercer – 2SO’.

When you walk into the office, you’ll notice the fragment on a desk.

This is one of the easier fragments to find because the mission naturally leads you there.

DEAD SPACE MARKER FRAGMENT SIX

Until now, each chapter has had a Marker Fragment, but that changes with Chapter Five, which has two.

The sixth Marker Fragment is then found in Chapter 5, during the Acquire the Liquid Nitrogen objective.

This objective begins immediately after collecting the fifth Fragment and completing the Lift the Lockdown mission, so you can get two in a row (though there is a diversion first where you have to clear some poison gas).

This objective takes you to the Cryogenics area, where you collect the Liquid Nitrogen before fighting the Hunter, which ends with you using stasis on it and freezing it in the large cryogenic chamber.

However, before picking up the Liquid Nitrogen and beginning the battle, stand outside the cryogenic chamber and walk around it, looking up. The sixth Fragment will be sitting on top of it.

Because you can’t reach it, use kinesis to pull it over to you. Don’t worry if you start the fight first; it will still be there after you freeze the Hunter.

DEAD SPACE – MARKER FRAGMENT SEVEN
Chapter Six contains the seventh Marker Fragment.

The majority of this chapter is spent tracking down and injecting eight ‘Wheezers’ with an enzyme.

When you’ve injected the sixth one and your new objective reads Inject Wheezer 07, you should be standing in a corner of the East Grow Chamber’s top deck.

Use your zero gravity to fly to the opposite corner of the room, where you’ll find the Fragment hidden in a blobby alcove.

DEAD SPACE MARKER FRAGMENT NUMBER EIGHT

Following this, you’ll be given two objectives: locate the Admin RIG and locate the SOS Beacon. Choose Find the Admin RIG first and complete it, so you can move on to Find the SOS Beacon.

You will be promoted to Security Clearance Level 3 as soon as you obtain the Admin RIG. Before you begin following the blue tracker line to the SOS Beacon, look over the map for a room called Mineral Samples (it’s on the left).

Use your Level 3 access to gain access to the Mineral Samples room. In this room, the Fragment will be on a shelf.

DEAD SPACE MARKER FRAGMENT NINE
Chapter Eight contains the ninth Marker Fragment.

Early in the chapter, you must complete the Fix the Comms Array objective, which requires you to solve a puzzle by connecting shapes to nodes using stasis.

Because it’s so far away from the action, it’s easy to overlook the presence of the Marker Fragment in this room.

Move all the way to the left while facing the Communication Control screen. The Fragment can be found in a small nook inside the wall.

If you can’t find it, it’s on the left side of the screenshot below.

In case you can’t figure out the puzzle, here’s our Dead Space Fix the Comms Array solution.

DEAD SPACE – MARKER FRAGMENT TEN

There are no Marker Fragments in Chapter Nine because it takes place on a different ship.

Don’t worry, there are two in Chapter Ten to compensate.

The first appears during the Deluxe Quarters objective Destroy Tendril – this is the second of the Tendrils you must kill.

When you arrive at the Deluxe Quarters room, you’ll know you’re getting close to the Tendril because you have to clear a quarantine room first. After that, exit this room and proceed across the corridor to the Deluxe Quiet Bunks to obtain a power source.

Carry this back out to the corridor and plug it into the Circuit Breaker socket. Use this to open the doors, then return to the Deluxe Quarters from where you came.

The door to Deluxe Shift Bunks, which is located south of here, is now open. The Marker Fragment can be found on a desk.

DEAD SPACE – MARKER FRAGMENT ELEVEN

The eleventh Marker Fragment appears shortly after the tenth and is found in Chapter Ten once more.

This time its part of the Destroy Tendril in Chief Steward’s Office objective, which requires you to kill the fourth Tendril.

When you enter the Chief Steward’s office, a cutscene involving Dr. Kyne will play out before the door to the Inquiry Desks opens.

Not only is the Tendril present, but so is the Fragment, which is sitting on a desk.

DEAD SPACE – MARKER FRAGMENT TWELVE
Chapter Eleven contains the twelfth and final Marker Fragment.

You will be given the mission when you arrive at Cargo Bay. Use the Cargo Crane.

Instead of doing this right away, go to the Cargo Bay’s southeast corner, where you’ll find the final Marker Fragment on a shelf.

You should now have all 12 Marker Fragments, but don’t continue playing the game as usual – you won’t see the alternate ending that way. Continue reading for the final step.

WHERE SHOULD THE MARKER FRAGMENTS BE PLACED FOR THE SECRET ENDING?

Once you’ve collected all Twelve Marker Fragments, there’s still one step left, so don’t continue the story – and especially don’t proceed to Chapter Twelve, because the alternate ending will be impossible to obtain.

Go to the nearest tram station (if you’re still in the Cargo Bay, there’s one nearby when you exit via the elevator), get on the tram, and ride it to the Crew Quarters.

You want to go to the Executive Quarters from here. It’s easy to get lost, so take the following path: from the tram, go straight ahead and through the door labeled ‘To Crew Deck’ (and then through the door labeled ‘Common Area’).

Continue straight and shimmy slightly to the left to enter the ‘Central Nexus’ door. Take the elevator to Floor 1 and exit through the other Central Nexus door. Walk straight ahead until you reach the broken window, then turn right and ascend the Cargo Lift.

Walk around this higher level until you see the door marked ‘To Executive Quarters’. Once inside, proceed through a few more doors and follow the path until you reach a large room.

You want to go through the door marked Captain B Mathius on your left.

There will be twelve clumps on the table; go over there and place the Fragments in them.

You’ll only get one line of dialogue, which may feel a little underwhelming. However, all you’ve done is enabled the alternate ending.

To see the secret alternate ending, you must now play the game normally and complete Chapters 11 and 12. Please put everything in the proper headings.

Top 5 Returnal Weapons

top 5 returnal weapons

Returnal is a challenging game that requires you to constantly adapt to new enemies and environments. Having the right weapon for each situation is crucial, as it can mean the difference between life and death. Here’s a detailed breakdown of all the weapons in the game and how to use them effectively:

Tachyomatic Carbine

  1. This is a versatile weapon that fires energy bolts. It’s a good all-around gun that’s great for taking out enemies at medium to long range. The rate of fire is decent, and the damage output is solid. The Carbine also has a useful alt-fire mode, which fires a charged shot that deals extra damage. This is particularly useful against tougher enemies, such as bosses.
Tachyomatic Carbine

One of the key advantages of the Tachyomatic Carbine is its accuracy. It has a tight spread, making it easier to hit targets at long range. This is particularly useful when facing flying enemies, such as the Gorgarva. The Carbine can take them out from a distance before they have a chance to get close.

To get the most out of the Tachyomatic Carbine, it’s important to keep moving. The gun is accurate, but it’s not particularly powerful, so you need to keep your distance from enemies. This is particularly true in the later stages of the game, where enemies become more numerous and aggressive. Try to use the environment to your advantage, using cover to stay out of harm’s way while picking off enemies from a distance. Let’s continue with the Top 5 Returnal Weapons list.

Electropylon Driver

  1. This is a unique weapon that fires an electrical charge that can arc between enemies. The Electropylon Driver is particularly effective against shielded enemies, as the charge can bypass their shields and damage them directly. It also has a useful alt-fire mode, which fires a charged shot that deals extra damage and can stun enemies.

One of the key advantages of the Electropylon Driver is its ability to hit multiple targets at once. This is particularly useful when facing groups of enemies, such as the small flying creatures that swarm you in certain areas. The Electropylon Driver can take out multiple enemies with a single shot, making it an effective crowd-control weapon.

The Electropylon Driver also has a high rate of fire, making it useful for quickly taking out enemies. It’s not the most powerful weapon in the game, but it’s versatile and effective in a variety of situations. To get the most out of the Electropylon Driver, try to use its alt-fire mode whenever possible. The charged shot is particularly useful against tougher enemies, such as the shielded Zephyr.

Hollowseeker

  1. This is a unique weapon that fires a homing projectile that seeks out enemies. The Hollowseeker is particularly effective against fast-moving enemies, such as the flying creatures that swarm you in certain areas. The homing projectile can track these enemies and take them out quickly.

One of the key advantages of the Hollowseeker is its versatility. It can be used at medium to long range, and its homing projectile makes it easy to hit moving targets. The Hollowseeker also has a useful alt-fire mode, which fires a charged shot that deals extra damage and has a wider area of effect.

The downside of the Hollowseeker is its slow rate of fire. It’s not the best weapon for taking out large groups of enemies quickly, as you need to wait for each shot to track and hit its target. However, the Hollowseeker is still an effective weapon, particularly when facing fast-moving enemies that are difficult to hit with other guns.

To get the most out of the Hollowseeker, it’s important to be patient. Wait for the homing projectile to hit its target before firing another shot. The Hollowseeker is also effective when used in combination with other weapons. For example, you can use the Tachyomatic Carbine to take out enemies at long range, and then switch to the Hollowseeker to take out any fast-moving enemies that get too close. Let’s continue with the Top 5 Returnal Weapons list.

Spitmaw Blaster

  1. This is a powerful shotgun that fires a spread of acid pellets. The Spitmaw Blaster is particularly effective at close range, and it can take out most enemies with a single shot. The gun also has a useful alt-fire mode, which fires a charged shot that deals extra damage and has a wider spread.

One of the key advantages of the Spitmaw Blaster is its high damage output. It’s one of the most powerful weapons in the game, and it can take out most enemies with a single shot. This is particularly useful when facing tougher enemies, such as the tank-like Automaton. The Spitmaw Blaster can quickly whittle down their health, leaving them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.

However, the Spitmaw Blaster has a slow rate of fire, and its range is limited. It’s not the best weapon for taking out enemies at medium to long range, as you need to get up close to do any significant damage. To get the most out of the Spitmaw Blaster, try to use it against groups of enemies that are clustered together. The wide spread of the acid pellets can take out multiple enemies at once, making it an effective crowd-control weapon. Let’s continue with the Top 5 Returnal Weapons list.

Dreadbound

  1. This is a powerful rifle that fires explosive rounds. The Dreadbound is particularly effective at medium to long range, and it can take out most enemies with a single shot. The gun also has a useful alt-fire mode, which fires a charged shot that deals extra damage and creates a shockwave that stuns nearby enemies.

One of the key advantages of the Dreadbound is its high damage output. It’s one of the most powerful weapons in the game, and it can take out most enemies with a single shot. This is particularly useful when facing tougher enemies, such as the shielded Zephyr. The Dreadbound can quickly bypass their shields and deal significant damage.

However, the Dreadbound has a slow rate of fire, and its ammo is limited. It’s not the best weapon for taking out large groups of enemies, as you need to conserve your ammo and pick your shots carefully. To get the most out of the Dreadbound, try to use it against high-priority targets, such as bosses or tougher enemies.

In conclusion, these Top 5 Returnal Weapons have their own strengths and weaknesses, and it’s important to choose the right weapon for each situation. Experiment with different guns and find the ones that work best for your playstyle. And remember, always keep moving and use the environment to your advantage!
